Statement - Lindsey Hamilton

Our relationship with food production is complex. In a growing organic market there is a great deal of mistrust about new technologies, processes and interventions in the food industry. Yet man has been manipulating agricultural processes since we learned to cultivate crops. So when is this intervention too much or does anything go? At this stage I find I am faced with more questions than answers;
Do we need to farm so intensively?
Are the controls on pesticides strict enough?
Should I be worried about GM crops?
Are terminator seeds morally acceptable?

Currently I am interested in exploring the question of terminator technology. This is the process of restricting the use of genetically modified plants by causing second-generation seeds to be sterile. In this way farmers cannot harvest seeds for subsequent crops.
