Work in progress by December 2006 Concept/ project description/ exhibition proposal Working title: (re)presentation
Our work deals in separate ways with the representation of a reality and the relationship between reality, perception and representation. We continously experiment with and challenge the medium of representation, forms of expression and ways of working, both collaboratively and individually, and attempt not to let the medium limit our expression, but rather always search for new manners of presentation.
Catrin investigates and does extensive research into the subject matter of her works. Using the blue sky as an utopian idea of perfection she scratches the surface, then goes on to digging deeper underneath it by looking at particular and local consequences of global warming and weather modifications. Her working process is an ongoing modification of the representation of a reality, subtracting and reworking elements.
Sandra observes, documents and juxtaposes her observations of a reality in Mimic Space, a space constructed by humans to provide for a natural need in human controlled conditions. In Preserved Silence she has been searching for locations that still remains uncontaminated by human made sounds and represents these locations through sound recordings, maps and photographic images, Now the Swedish government wants to control these few remaining spaces by preventing them from getting contaminated by human made sounds.
Nina observes the fine line between the natural and the per formative aspects in the photographic portrait. By using video, a time based medium, as an extension of the photographic portrait, she captures the transformation from being oneself to representing oneself. The one I think I am..., also reinforces awareness of the increasing surveillance in contemporary urban spaces, while Bilingual Identities focuses on the individual and identity as rooted in language and different languages as different systems of expression.
The recurring theme in all these pieces of work is the continuous conflicting relationship between the natural and the constructed, the tension between nature and human made constructions and how our wish to preserve the natural maybe resulting in controlling and reconstructing it.
